  4. Can I please also emphasise the need to get good knee pads? My Protec knee pads (the basic ones) wore out really quickly this year and I ended up injuring one knee relatively badly because of repetitive falls on a dead pad. I cannot stress enough how important it is for people who are going to be falling on their knees to have good support and cushioning - trust me, you'll thank me for it later!

  11. Gawler would be great, but being a southerner it's a loooong way from me! I'm going to St Clair & Blackwood this weekend, will be on my own so if anyone wants to say hi you'll know me by my short pinky-red hair & black skates with red wheels.

  15. Re the freshies facebook group... no plans at this stage, we have been advertising this website address for all the "need to know" freshy info.

Altho things are a little quiet just now we will include a write up of each weeks sessions as they occur during the Raw Meat & Fresh Meat training period, also anything else that comes to hand.

It's just a bit easier to keep everything in one place for now. Please tho keep the questions and discussions coming.

  17. Been going to St Clair for last few weeks, ended up meeting some wonderful people, now getting skates, gear and ready to come along to the info night. Thanks to Eli and Georgia for the encouragement last Sat. Basically it is now or never :0) Hopefully years of playing touch football will help plus the need for speed. Don't forget St Clair now running a Friday night session from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. FYI St Clair not open to the public this Saturday due to election. Later Gaters

  18. Can anyone tell me if you have to have stoppers for derby? Ive never used stoppers and my current skates dont have any. Im waiting for my new derby skates to arrive but i really want to take the stoppers off. Will i have to learn to skate with them on?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Don't have to have stoppers...lots of people play derby with out them. However, I like the stoppers-and find that I use them for agility, getting up, and giving whips.

  21. Thanks Bessy.

Just two more questions, how many skaters are you looking for this year, and if there are allot of good skaters will more teams be created, and hopefully creating more bouts?

Should we be practicing and know how to do most of the WFTDA minimum skill requirements before the raw meat training, including knowing the answers to the exam questions?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great questions Kerryn, I have been wondering that too. More bouts would be fantastic, they are too few & far between!

Has been great to meet some of you, see you at St Clair tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Kerryn
Intake for 2011 will be discussed at the info night in detail, at this stage there is no set number, but it will be considerably less than last year. We are NOT creating another team (due to many reasons like training space & bouting venue availability) so will only be replacing league skaters who are not returning next season and those who wish to be referees or NSO's (non skating officials).

Raw meat training will consist of basic skating skills, if you do well with that & pass testing you will progress to fresh meat training(derby skills). Testing will consist of skating skills only, so there's no need to worry about a written test. If your that keen tho to check it out great work !!!

sad to see that no new team will be formed and a smaller intake of fresh meat for next year :( i thought this state was RADelaide??? anyhow have to see whether i can fit it into my professional practice of working lol...

  25. Does anyone have any hot tips on smooth places to skate outdoors?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey,

I skate outdoors most days weather permitting (which isnt often lately). Im in the western suburbs near semaphore if anyone is interested in skating week days??? Let me know. I have two tracks i like, one is a car park never used (even has an island in the middle to skate around) and the other is a basketball court at a school. I tried to do the calculations of a derby track and looked up the measurements of a basketball court and i think the two goal hope things are about the same distance apart as the ends of a derby track. so if you skate from hoop to hoop it should be the same. dont quote me on that though as my math isnt great.

Anyone going to st clair tomorrow night, i got my new skates today and keen to try them out.

    Kerryn

  28. Hey Kerryn

Thanks for the advice on where to skate outdoors. I'm in the cbd area so semaphore is a bit of a hike for me plus you're right about the weather!

Looking forward to meeting everyone at Raw Meat :)

  31. Hey I wanna be a roller-girl.
I'm using a friend account if you're wondering, Google wouldn't let me sign-in without a phone. I am actually a female.

I missed the information night on the 31st, can I still come along in October?

I'm down in the Northern Suburbs (Golden Grove) if anyone knows a place the skate up here :D.

    thanks Guys, Erin.

  34. Sorry folks registration is now CLOSED!

If you did not attend info night & write your name on the list, or have not registered via email as of yesterday (14th sept). I'm sorry to say you are too late. Yes we'd love to have you all, but have limited training space and VERY limited amount of player positions to fill.

Please remember Raw/ Fresh meat is via registration ONLY. You can't just turn up on the night if you have not registered already.
Also this is a CLOSED training session, please don't bring your friends, partners, children to these sessions as they will be asked to leave.
